Goals

All of our goals at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church proceed from a confession of faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

When people come to unite with our church family in a service of worship, the congregation verbalizes our core beliefs which are:
“It is the purpose of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church to engage as many persons as will share its confession of faith in Jesus Christ; to worship the Lord; to be equipped as disciples; to witness and serve so that the Word of God may become effective in their lives. Together and individually, we work to fulfill our mission as a congregation. We work in Christian fellowship and with social institutions in a caring ministry of love. In order to develop the individual ministries, we will remain flexible and open to meet the changing needs of the Church, the community and the world. It is our aim to draw on the spiritual gifts and abilities of all persons to involve them in the life and the mission of the church.”

After the congregational recitation, the new members then affirm in unison their willingness to fulfill these core beliefs by saying:
“In our desire to unite with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, we pledge faithful support and active participation to ensure and further the goals of this congregation, that we may express, through our church and our life, the love and faith of Jesus Christ.”

More specific goals were created two years ago when a team concept of congregational administation was approved. The total task can be called: A congregation carrying out its mission to Jesus Christ within a “gift-based” ministry. This new approach has streamlined the work of the congregation. The goals were created with the title, “Vision 2006”. They are listed below.

We hope this new approach will spark your interest.

Core Values of Holy Trinity

1. We value being followers of Jesus who are Christ-centered. Biblically-based and prayerfully led to grow spiritually.

2. We value identifying and developing the gifts and talents of our church community.

3. We value worship through liturgy, music, prayer, preaching and witness, as an expression of our faith and in gratitude for what God has done for us.

4. We value a caring ministry to our community and world, which lives out in word and deed the love of Christ to all.

5. We value being responsible stewards of all resources.

Vision 2006

Guided by God’s benevolent grace and the spirit of the Lutheran tradition, Trinity is:

Vision 1. A growing church grounded in worship that is inspirational, thematic and varied.

Goal 1: Ten percent increase in attendance each year 2002-2007. By 2006 have 180 at each main service and 50 at a new third service.
Goal 2: At each service have either choir, chorale or instrumental group by 2002.
Goal 3: Incorporate national and global issues and leaders in worship at least quarterly.

Vision 2 .A faith community focusing on discipleship (being or developing disciples of Christ) and empowering everyone to have a ministry.

Goal 1: Develop a structure to integrate new members into the life of the church and retain at least 80% of new members and keep them active, as measured over five years.
Goal 2: Develop a strategy that helps our members identify their spiritual gifts and enables them to use their gifts in ministry with joy and thanksgiving.
Goal 3: Develop a discipleship training program to include at least 10% of the membership for each of the next five years. (To help people feel the Spirit of God growing within them and encourage them to disciple one another and glorify God.)

Vision 3. A church, which has developed the resources (human and financial) to implement programs of service to the worshiping community and to the greater community.

Goal 1: On average, TLC members, as a body, contribute 1.5% of their income to the church. Our goal is to raise this number to 3.5% by 2006.
Goal 2: Increase the number of volunteers participating in the life of the church by 5% annually, creating a database to maintain, monitor and enhance volunteer participation.
Goal 3: Maintain and refurbish the church property to meet the vision and mission of the congregation.

Vision 4. A fellowship that is warm and welcoming to all.

Goal 1: A congregation organized so every person is included in a circle of care, concern and contact (fellowship) that fosters and develops friendships by 2007.
Goal 2: Develop six new small groups by 2003 to accomplish warm and close friendships. (Four aspects of a “small group” are prayer, scripture, action and relationships).
Goal 3: By 2002 no member or visitor will arrive or leave church without being identified and welcomed.
Goal 4: Develop strategies to increase interaction between all generations present in the church.

Vision 5. A church that encourages life-long education in the faith.

Goal 1: Develop and implement at least six new and varied (in time, place and theme) offerings that encourage members to grow in theological understanding and to find the relevance of Christianity to the 21st Century and to their lives.
Goal 2: Review and re-develop a Christian educational program for children, youth and adults.

Vision 6. A church with a visible public presence in the community, known for addressing issues of social justice and ecumenism.

Goal 1: Participate cooperatively addressing problems locally, nationally and globally by 2003.
Goal 2: Establish a Campus Ministry presence at The University of Akron by 2007.
Goal 3: Form closer ties with our covenant partner church Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion by 2003.
Goal 4: Development of interdenominational fellowship of downtown churches by 2005.
Goal 5: Continue to share and expand Trinity’s music ministry in the community.
Goal 6: Explore ways to affirm and participate in the covenant relationships established by the ELCA and the Northeastern Ohio Synod.

Vision Statement

A short yet clear expression of our vision of what we desire to be is written in this sentence:

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is a faith community grounded in God's word, called to worship, and committed to serve as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Mission Statement

The way we see Holy Trinity accomplishing and becoming this vision is to establish and declare our mission in our congregational living:

The mission of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is to bring Jesus to people through Love and the word of God.
